Travel to Cuenca

Hello there fellow Spaneasiers! How is your Spanish going? We hope you’re improving every day and that you’re also staying safe taking all the possible precautions. On today’s post we wanted to bring you a cool and short trip to a city that is just a few hours away form Madrid that you can visit in a day as it doesn’t have many things to see and the ones you can visit are pretty near from each other. The city that we’re talking about is: Cuenca!
As we said, it’s really close to Madrid because if you go by car in one hour and a half you will be in the center of Cuenca. But if you aren’t lucky enough to have a car, you can take a bus or a train. If you get an AVE it will take less than an hour to get there but it will cost around 40 euros. If you take the train, you will need 3 hours to get there but it will only cost 25 euros. Lastly, there’s the option to go by bus and pay approximately 27 euros to get to Cuenca in 2 hours. As you can see, it all depends on your budget and if you need to get there fast!
Once you’re in the city, you must visit the Casas Colgantes. As their name recalls, these hanging houses are the most important thing you can visit in Cuenca as they are the symbol of the city. We recommend seeing them over the bridge as you can take good pictures of them, but if you want to get inside you can visit the Abstact Art Museum that’s in one of the three houses that are open to the public.
The Plaza Mayor is gorgeous too, it has many multicolored houses around it and it’s a great place to chill and drink something while you eat some of the famous meals of the region. Near this plaza, you can find Cuenca’s Cathedral. This one is a beautiful building, its inside is even better! One thing that everyone likes about this cathedral is that it has different art styles because its façade has been renewed a couple times in the past.
Lastly but not least, if you’re a fan of dinosaurs and fossils, or you travel with kids and you need to kill a couple hours in Cuenca, you can visit the Paleontological Museum of Castile La Mancha. It’s a cool place because in the region there was discovered a type of dinosaur that hasn’t been discovered anywhere else! Also, the views from its gardens of the city are amazing!
